‘Gardening in Tune with Nature’ topic of talk in Belfast
Take a slide tour of gardens bursting with life, and learn how you can create your own, when authors Reeser Manley and Marjorie Peronto give a free public program at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 20, in Belfast Free Library.
The couple will talk about the themes in their book, The Life in Your Garden: Gardening for Biodiversity, which they wrote and photographed for gardeners “concerned about Earth’s biodiversity crisis.” Learn how to choose native plants, encourage butterflies and other pollinators, and convert lawn to garden so that more life can thrive (and you can spend less time mowing).
Manley and Peronto are also the authors of The New England Gardener’s Year, a month-by-month guide for those who garden in a land of snowy winters and balmy summers. They live in Ellsworth, along with their dog, Sophie, their cat, Berry, and a worm bin in the living room.
Everyone is invited to this program in the library’s ground-floor Abbott Room, part of Belfast Garden Club’s annual daytime speakers series, which runs monthly from October to April. The club holds business meetings the same days at 1 p.m. and the public is invited to attend those as well.
