Free movies in Camden: Community Thank You Films series

CAMDEN — The Camden Opera House, 29 Elm St./Route 1, will open a new free film series Wednesday, July 17, at 7 p.m.

The Community Thank You Films series, sponsored by the Community Arts Fund, is the historic venue’s way to show its appreciation for the support the Midcoast community and Town of Camden have shown it over the years.

First up on the opera house’s big screen will be “The Beatles Deconstructed: Rubber Soul” (2016, USA), an entry in writer/presenter Scott Freiman’s series of lectures about the Fab Four’s seminal work. In this 90-minute film, Freiman explores the creation of Norwegian WoodIn My LifeNowhere Man and other classics on the No. 1 album.

Upcoming in the Community Thank You Films series are the annual showing of Andre: The Seal Who Came Home, Wednesday night, Aug. 7; and a special Veterans Day screening of Peter Jackson’s They Shall Not Grow Old, Monday night, Nov. 11.

Other titles will be announced as scheduled.

The Camden Opera House’s Community Arts Fund supports programming that shines a spotlight on Maine artists via the Blue Café series and MaineMadeMusic concerts, among other offerings.
