THOMASTON — Four people were transported to local hospitals, Tuesday, June 23, following a three-vehicle collision on Route 1, in Thomaston.

At approximately 4:50 p.m., one vehicle was stopped in the northbound lane of Atlantic Highway (Route 1) waiting to turn into the Thomaston Place Auction Galleries parking lot. According to Thomaston Police Chief Tim Hoppe, a pickup truck travelling north came up from behind and allegedly struck the rear of the stopped vehicle. That crash forced the turning vehicle into the path of a southbound vehicle, causing a head-on collision.

Ambulances from Thomaston, Warren, and Rockland transported the four injured people in the three rigs.

Thomaston Fire Department assisted with the scene, as well as swept glass and debris from the roadway. Thomaston Police investigated the crash, and deputies from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office provided traffic control at Route 97 and Oyster River Road.

All remaining units cleared the scene at 5:47 p.m.

Charges may be pending, according to Hoppe.
