Fossel to teach field course on old barns at Morris Farm

Event has passed

Do you have an old barn and lots of questions? How old is my barn and what was it used for? What repairs are needed to make my barn safe? Can my barn be fixed up at a reasonable cost? What can I do myself and when do I need an expert? How can I keep my old barn from falling down? What kinds of things can people do with an old barn?

Whether you need to make decisions about an old barn or are curious about the variety of wonderful barns in Maine, the Field Course on Old Barns, sponsored by The Morris Farm Trust in Wiscasset, can help you. Too often, old barns just fall down, when a relatively small amount of preventive maintenance is all that is needed to preserve a beautiful, irreplaceable building.\

The course begins on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 6:30 p.m. in the Learning Center at the Morris Farm. Taught by Les Fossel, restoration contractor, this course starts with a lecture on old barns in Maine and then moves from barn to barn each week, giving participants an opportunity to learn about their own old buildings and share knowledge with their classmates. After the first class, meetings are scheduled at the convenience of the students. The total number of classes will depend upon the number of participants, and the series will end with a tour of the instructor’s barns and a potluck supper.

The suggested donation for the Field Course on Old Barns is $70 for an individual and $120 for a couple.
