Five Town CSD hires new Adult and Community Education director

    ROCKPORT — The School Board of Five Town CSD has appointed David Watts as its new director of Adult and Community Education. The award-winning Five Town program has a state-wide reputation for quality education.

    “As the new director, I come with a willing heart to learn and understand the educational needs of the community,” said Watts, in a news release. “I am a lifelong learner myself and have always enjoyed doing many things. My focus will be to continue with and build upon the excellent legacy put in place by my predecessor, Tim Dresser, with an eye toward expanding career development opportunities that support our local economy.” 

    Watts joins the Five Town CSD team by way of, most recently, RSU 5, in Freeport, where he was the director of Community Programs. He has more than 35 years of experience in a variety of roles, including adult education, music education, facility management, banking, appraising, commercial real estate development, and arts management. In addition, he has been a music director and performer his entire adult life. 

    “The Midcoast area is a vibrant learning community,” he said.  “It is one of the main things that attracted me to apply for this position. In addition, Adult Education has been going through significant changes and challenges and I’m excited to become involved in helping youth and adults in this area overcome barriers to education and employment.”

    Watts will work out at Camden Hills Regional High School, on Route 90 in Rockport.

    In addition to enrichment offerings, Five Town CSD offers High School Completion, High School Equivalency, basic math and English tutoring for adults, College and Adult Transitions education and advising services, workforce education, and general career counseling services. Many of these academic and career services are free for qualifying residents.

    More information about workforce, academic, and enrichment classes will be coming out in the Fall 2018 brochure which is due to arrive mailboxes just after Labor Day.

    Five Town CSD Adult and Community Education is an award-winning program and a member of the Maine Adult Education Association (MAEA). In any economy, Adult Education courses are great choices because they are local, affordable, and are designed to fit within personal schedules. Over 2,000 people each year participate in some way in the Five Town program, whether it is taking a class or teaching one. Extensive online learning opportunities are also offered. It doesn't matter where one lives, all can participate in the Five Town CSD adult education program.
