First National Bank supports Hurricane Island with $25,000 contribution
ROCKLAND — First National Bank recently announced a $25,000 contribution to Hurricane Island Center for Science and Leadership.
The Hurricane Island Center for Science and Leadership integrates science education, applied research, and leadership development through summer science experiences on Hurricane Island and through year-round educational programs and teacher support in area schools.
This year, Hurricane has teamed up with St. George Middle School, Oceanside STEM Academy, Vinalhaven Elementary and Middle Schools and Islesboro High School to provide professional development and teacher support including adapting and developing online and classroom lessons that are COVID responsive.
Hurricane Island has also partnered with the local 4H campus, Blueberry Cove, to develop and implement a new place-based experimental learning experience for St. George middle school students. This collaborative extended St. George School’s capacity to engage students outdoors in meaningful ways that connect with science curricular and social-emotional needs. First National Bank’s contribution will support both programs.
