First Church in Belfast celebrates 200 years with rededication ceremony
BELFAST — The community is invited to join with The First Church in Belfast, UCC to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the historic sanctuary. The 200th Anniversary Rededication Service, 1818-2018, will take place on Sunday, Nov. 18, at 10 a.m.
It will be a time to commemorate the years of preaching and prayer, singing and sacrifice, devotion and duty, teaching and learning, baptisms, confirmations, weddings and funerals. Years of faith and service to the community, the world and to God.
It will be a time to remember the original dedication of the church on Nov. 15, 1818. And with so many within Belfast and the surrounding area that have been touched by this place and this church over the years, it seems only appropriate that the invitation to join in this celebration go out to everyone, according to a news release.
“The First Church has long been seen as Belfast's church,” the release said. “It is one of Belfast's iconic structures and has continuously served the community for the past 200 years.
“The Rev. Dr. Kate Winters and Rev. Joel Krueger, along with the whole congregation of the church are excited to share in this culmination of what has been a busy year of celebratory picnics on the front lawn, historic lectures, visits by ghosts, organ recitals, fairs and public suppers.”
The November 18 service will feature special music by the church choir and message by guest preacher Rev. Deborah J. Blood, UCC Maine Conference Minister.
A light luncheon will follow the service in the church Fellowship Hall. All are welcome!
The First Church is an Open and Affirming Congregation, ADA Accessible, located at 104 Church Street in Belfast.
