ROCKLAND — The 2021-2022 season of Metropolitan Opera Live in HD simulcasts from New York City’s Lincoln Center to movie theaters across the globe continues Saturday, October 23, at 1 p.m., at the Strand Theatre, with a broadcast of Blanchard’s Fire Shut Up In My Bones, the first opera by a Black composer presented on the Met stage.
An Encore presentation will take place on Tuesday, November 2, at 1 p.m.
Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts jazz musician and composer Terence Blanchard’s adaptation of Charles M. Blow’s moving memoir. Featuring a libretto by filmmaker Kasi Lemmons, the opera tells a poignant and profound story about a young man’s journey to overcome a life of trauma and hardship, according to Strand, in a news release.
James Robinson and Camille A. Brown — two of the creators of the Met’s sensational recent production of Porgy and Bess—co-direct this new staging. Baritone Will Liverman stars as Charles, alongside sopranos Angel Blue as Destiny/Loneliness/Greta and Latonia Moore as Billie.
This live cinema transmission is part of the Met’s Live in HD series, bringing opera to movie theaters across the globe.
