CAMDEN — Fire and Grace – the string duo of William Coulter and Edwin Huizinga – will perform this year’s final SoundCheck, Friday, Oct. 28, at 7:30 p.m., at the Camden Opera House, 29 Elm St. The hour-long concert is sponsored by Studiomind. 

The collaboration between steel string guitarist Coulter and violinist Huizinga explores the connective musical elements of classical, folk and contemporary traditions from around the world. The duo’s repertoire ranges from Bach to Vivaldi; tango to Celtic tunes; and traditional Bulgarian to American fiddle tunes and waltzes, all played with a sense of discovery and commitment to the elements of passion and virtuosity — fire and grace — found in these diverse traditions. 

“Edwin and I love to mix the music of Bach with folk music from around the world,” said the Grammy Award-winning Coulter, in an opera house news release. Coulter was speaking of their Suite Espanol on the latest Fire & Grace album, Alma. 

The Suite alternates the six movements of Bach’s Cello Suite No. 1 with six movements featuring melodies old and new from Spain. The result is an amazing adventure to perform and an exciting and compelling journey for the listener, Coulter said.

On Friday night, Nov. 4, the opera house brings Leland Gantt’s one-man theater work “Rhapsody in Black” to the Midcoast, funded in part by the New England States Touring program of the New England Foundation for the Arts and sponsored by Captain Swift Inn.
