Experienced trombonist to perform at Camden Hills spring concert
ROCKPORT — On Thursday, April 4, the CHRHS Bands, under the direction of Nancy Rowe, will present their annual Spring Concert. Student teacher, Eben Wight, from the University of Maine will also be guest conducting.
The concert will be held at 7 p.m., in the Strom Auditorium.
Groups to be featured include the CHRHS Concert and Jazz Bands.
Trombonist Dan Barrett will be the featured performer with the CHRHS Concert Band performing Carnival of Venice by Julius Benedict and arranged by Jean-Baptiste Arban.
Barrett holds degrees from the University of Nevada, Brigham Young University and Arizona State University. He has performed with the Utah Symphony, Boston Brass, Bangor Symphony, Brigham Young University Philharmonic, as well as a solo performance with the Carson City Symphony.
He has performed with a variety of jazz musicians including Bob Mintzer, Conrad Hewing, Andy Martin, John Fedchock and many others.
Barrett currently teaches low brass, music theory and jazz at the University of Maine.
He is also the author of Solo Training for Trombone, a book of exercises based on standard solo repertoire for high school and college students.
In addition, to the Carnival of Venice, the Concert Band will be performing a variety of repertoire including works by Vaughan-Williams and a medley from the Jersey Boys. The Jazz Band will be performing works by Duke Ellington, Victor Lopez, Doug Beach and Maine composer, Terry White.
High School senior Simon Fedarko will be the featured tenor sax soloist for the ballad In the Dark of Night.
Other soloists include Myles Kelley, Andrew Orne, Noah Vix, Henry Pharris and Ezra Lemole.
Admission to the concert is free.
