The Lux Radio Theatre, Hollywood-studded commercials, large cast

CAMDEN — Everyman Repertory Theatre will present a one-hour SoundCheck performance Friday, Jan. 6, at 7:30 p.m., at the Camden Opera House. Everyman’s Lux Radio Theatre-style staged reading of “It’s a Wonderful Life” is sponsored by StudioMind.

Nominated for five Oscars, Frank Capra’s 1946 film It’s a Wonderful Life was a box office disappointment. But when it fell into the public domain 28 years later, TV introduced new generations to the movie, which is now considered a holiday classic. The Lux Radio Theatre adaptation two months after the film’s release had film stars James Stewart and Donna Reed at the microphone.

Like the original radio show, Everyman’s presentation includes Hollywood-studded commercials for Lux Toilet Soap. And like Capra’s film, this “It’s a Wonderful Life” has a large cast. Robin Jones and Jennifer Hodgson are featured as George and Mary, while multiple other characters are played by Joseph Coté, Dagney Ernest, Andrea Itkin, Ryan Jackson, Dean Jorgenson, Jim Reitz, Scott Anthony Smith, Beverly Scott, Jan Zimmerman and Paul Hodgson, who also directs and adapted the script. Geoffrey Parker provides sound effects.

Choose-your-own reserved tickets are $10, and advance purchase is encouraged via and 236-3154.

Doors will open at 7 p.m. SoundCheck shows also are livestreamed on the opera house’s Facebook page.
