ROCKPORT — From January 3 through 30, the Rockport Public Library will exhibit a show of photography entitled “Embracing Stillness” by local photographer Anne Brown. The display will feature images paying homage to the stark beauty of wintertime in Maine. The photos will be on view on the library’s Art Wall, located in the building’s lower level.

Brown aims to capture “the true essence of a place or a person” with her work.

“I am an extremely curious person,” said Brown, in a news release. “I am constantly observing and synthesizing the world around me. I find beauty everywhere.”

Her photos capture winter’s clear blue skies, golden light, and remarkably long shadows, according to the library. She also focuses on crisp textures and winter’s softly subtle color palettes.

Brown is celebrating her third winter in Rockland, having moved from Boston to the Midcoast to “live a simpler life and be closer to nature.” As a photographer and videographer, she is primarily self-taught, and has taken intensive workshops throughout Boston, Maine, and Arizona. Brown says that she believes in “simplicity, social justice, community, and the ability for nature to teach and heal — and I actively pursue projects that explore these themes.”
