Ellsworth baseball blanks Oceanside in quarterfinals

ELLSWORTH — The 10th-seeded Oceanside varsity baseball program hit the road Thursday, June 10 for a Class B North quarterfinal contest against second-seeded Ellsworth (13-5). 

On the road, the Mariners (7-11) were blanked in a narrow affair 2-0 by the hosts. 

Ellsworth plated a run in each the fourth and fifth innings while tallying five hits and stranding six runners on base. 

Oceanside, meanwhile, recorded six hits, committed three errors and abandoned seven on base. 

The lone repeat hitter for Oceanside was Austin Chilles (two singles) while the lone repeat hitter for Ellsworth was Craig Burnett (two singles). Meanwhile, Michal Palmer of Ellsworth collected a double. 

On the mound for Ellsworth was Burnett who recorded six hits, two walks and eight batters. 

Chilles worked the mound for Oceanside and allowed two runs, five hits, two walks and a hit-by-pitch while striking out one.
