Edith 'Edie' Rogers Kyle, obituary
ROCKPORT — Edith “Edie” Rogers Kyle of Rockport passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2025. She was born in 1934 to Elenor Potter and Irving Henry Rogers in Westfield, New Jersey.
Edie is predeceased by her daughter, Amy, and her husband of 57 years, Edwin Dewees Kyle, Jr., and has lived in Rockport for several decades. Edie leaves behind her two sons, Edwin D Kyle, III and Lee H. Kyle; and her grandsons, Emmett Kyle and Remy Kyle.
Edie’s mother was a classical pianist and concert organist and Edie often claimed she had no musical aptitude and was happy to be described as a ‘tomboy.’ Edie first discovered Maine as a small child at Camp Mudjekeewis where she spent 8 summers as a camper and as a camp counsellor.
Edie’s husband Edwin worked for American Can Company, and the family moved about every 3 years for a few decades. Ned resigned this position and began working for Life Care Corporation which entailed moving the family to Naples, Florida after her children finished college.
Volunteering was a major interest of Edie’s, and she volunteered on many blood drives and for Meals On Wheels in Florida. Edie and Edwin moved to Rockport about 35 years ago and very much considered themselves Mainers. In Maine, Edwin volunteered extensively for the YMCA, focusing on their boat donation program, and Edie was an active volunteer at Merryspring Nature Center.
Edie’s hobbies included tin object painting, needlepoint, cross country skiing, tennis, reading and classical music. She was a caring, fun and loving person and will be dearly missed by many.
Edie wished no funeral service, but will have a memorial service to be announced in April in Camden or Rockport. In lieu of cards or flowers, Edie requested that people make a donation in her name to Merryspring Nature Center in Camden, or to the charity of their choice.
Condolences and memories may be shared at www.longfuneralhomecamden.com. Arrangements are with the Long Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 9 Mountain Street, Camden.
