What is the eBird app all about? Doug Hitchcox, Maine Audubon’s staff naturalist and one of Maine Regional eBird reviewers, will offer a Zoom talk on Wednesday, August 25, at 6:30 p.m. Learn simple ways you can contribute to bird research through the eBird app. Hitchcox will also show you the top tools to use that will enhance your birding skills.
Since the Cornell Lab of Ornithology launched eBird in 2002, it has grown to be one of the largest citizen science projects in the world thanks to thousands of volunteers submitting sightings of birds, according to Friends of Maine Coastal Islands NWR, in a news release. There are now over 100 million sightings contributed annually, with 20% growth annually. These observations are changing the ways bird research is done and also has created tools that are invaluable to birders.
