BELFAST — Kick-off your holiday season in downtown Belfast with a weekend of shopping and family friendly events and celebrating the magic of the holidays. Shop, dine, save, and play in Belfast.
The holiday season kicks-off in Belfast on December 7 with the Annual Downtown Early Bird Sale. This downtown-wide regressive sale starts at 6 a.m. and includes promotions from more than 40 participating retailers and restaurants. Early Birds can catch the deepest discounts from 6 - 9 a.m. with many stores offering deals all day long, according to Our Town, in a news release. Visit the Our Town Belfast website to view promotions and sales (including times) from all stores. Bangor Savings Bank’s Buoy Local presents this year’s Early Bird sale. New this year, Buoy Local is offering shoppers 5x rewards (or 5%) back for each purchase made with participating downtown Buoy Local Retailers.
Stay for the day and after you’ve gotten a handle on your holiday shopping, be sure to head to Post Office Square for the town Christmas tree lighting. At 4:30 p.m. the community will gather for cocoa, cookies, and caroling at this free yearly event. Look forward to Santa’s arrival by fire truck before the tree is lit at 5 p.m. After the tree lighting, Santa will meet with children indoors at nearby Key Bank.
A new event in 2019 is the Sip & Splurge. $10 gets your souvenir glass and Sip & Splurge shopping bag complete with a wish list for your personal Santa. Check in and start the night off from 5 - 5:30 p.m. at Delvino’s. Delvino’s will have a table of light snacks to enjoy.
Your glass and bag serves as your ticket to discounts and drinks throughout downtown. Many participating stores will be open late throughout downtown Belfast. Participating stores will have a beverage to put into your “Sip & Splurge” glass along with their choice of sale/discount/prize.
Sunday, December 22, Our Town Belfast invites community members to Post Office Square to celebrate the first night of Hanukkah in Belfast. The festivities kick-off at 3:30 p.m. with the lighting at sunset. The festivities will include traditional readings, live music, and snacks. The menorah will be lit during the ceremony and remain lit throughout the holiday. The menorah will be lit during Chanukah and remain lit throughout the holiday. Community members of all faiths are invited to this free, festive holiday celebration.
