DePatsy aids Maine Maritime with 12 points in Sunday win

CASTINE — Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball defeated Bates College 63-52 on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action inside of Smith Gymnasium. 

The victory marks the Mariners' first win over Bates since Dec. 11, 1999 and first win over a New England Small College Athletic Conference opponent since defeating Colby College in 2003. 

The Mariners held an early lead, but the Bobcats battled back to take a slim 27-25 advantage entering halftime.

After exchanging baskets early in the second half, the Mariners tied the game at 39-39 at 9:55, following a three-point play from Adam Richardson. That three-point play sparked a 16-0 run by the Mariners, giving them a 54-39 lead entering the final four minutes of play and the hosts never looked back.

Richardson led the Mariners with 23 points, nine rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocks. Nicholas DePatsy added 12 points, four rebounds and two assists and DeMerrill Levy chipped in with 10 points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal. 

Kimani Anderson contributed a game-high 10 rebounds, while also tallying eight points and an assist.

Andrew Snoddy led the Bobcats with 17 points, five rebounds, three steals, an assist and a block and Jeff Spellman added 11 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals.

The Mariners shot 41.7 percent from the floor, and 30.8 percent from beyond the arc, while the Bobcats shot 36.8 percent from the floor and 14.3 percent from three-point land. Maine Maritime held a 41-24 advantage in rebounds. 

With the win the Mariners improve to 3-2 on the season, while the Bobcats fall to 0-2 overall. Maine Maritime returns to action on Friday, Nov. 30 when they open up North Atlantic Conference play at Northern Vermont at Johnson at 5:30 pm.
