WARREN — Daniel G. Davey went home to be with the Lord during the early morning hours of February 27, 2023, with his wife, Victoria, by his side.

Dan was born in Rockland on November 2, 1941 to Donald O. and Laura (Sylvester) Davey. He was the oldest of three boys. He attended local schools in Maine through the 8th grade. His father was stationed in New Jersey where Dan attended school in Cape May. When his father was stationed in Hawaii, Dan completed his last year of high school there. Dan loved Hawaii where he did a lot of exploring, fishing, and swimming. Prior to the family moving to Hawaii, they took a cross country trip to California, they made many great memories, and documented their adventures with home movies.

After high school, Dan joined the Air Force, he was stationed in Pennsgrove, New Jersey, and McGuire Air Force Base. While in New Jersey he met a cute little red head by the name of Vicki Orbin. Vicki was only 15 when they met, they fell in love and were married in April 1964 in New Jersey. In December 1964 they made their way to Maine to start their new life together. They eventually welcomed three beautiful daughters, Chrissy, Lauri, and Denise.

Dan joined the Maine State Police as a State Trooper for 9 years. He then moved onto Lincoln County as a Sergeant Detective for the Sheriff’s Office. He and his brother, Don, worked together for Lincoln County for a number of years. Dan ran for Knox County Sheriff in 1985, he held that position for 22 years. During his tenure as Sheriff, he implemented many beneficial changes and programs. One program that he was particularly proud of was the D.A.R.E. Program. This program helped at risk youth in the community by providing after school classes and the Camp Postcard program in the summer. He was especially proud of this wonderful program. Dan also held the office of the President of the Sheriff’s Association for one year.

Dan was an avid fisherman, hunter, gardening expert, and diver. He built 3 houses over the years for his growing family, as well as renovating one. The last home he built took 7 years as they built and paid for it a little at a time. Although he worked tirelessly, he always found time for his family. They would take trips to the various Maine Islands, go raspberry and cranberry picking, visit quarries, teaching his girls to swim, and sailing on his homemade pontoon boat the “Goomba”.

Dan and Vicki owned and operated an Army/Navy store in Rockland for 8 years. After his retirement in 2006, he continued to serve the community as a Town Selectman for the Town of Warren, Chairman of the Town of Warren Sanitary Board, and Eucharistic Minister for St. Bernard’s Church in Rockland.

Dan will be remembered for his humbleness, his natural curiosity, his wit, his awesome storytelling, and his devotion to his family, friends, and community.

Dan was predeceased by his father, Don; his mother, Laura; and his brothers, Don and Dennis.

Dan is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years, Victoria; his daughters Chrissy Davey and life partner David Lizanecz, and Lauri Davey and her partner Jay Lane, Denise Davey and her partner Kevin Page; seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren; his sister, Donna Snowdeal; his brother Don’s children, Cecily Havener, Jessica Bartlett, and their mother Rindy Cushman with whom he shared a special bond after Don died in 1984.

He is survived by many cousins, one, in particular, he was very close to was Christine Rush from Illinois; and sister-in-law Nikki Orbin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 6, 2023, at 10 a.m., at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 150 Broadway Avenue in Rockland. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall.
