Connor Garvey, Ben Cosgrove to perform in Belfast, Dec. 10

BELFAST — Portland native Connor Garvey brings his compelling mix of soulful themes, intelligent lyrics, and transparent vocals to The Underground Lounge on Thursday, Dec. 8, joined by special guest Ben Cosgrove on keys.

Garvey came of musical age during the era of Shawn Colvin, Martin Sexton, Catie Curtis, and John Gorka, a legacy audibly present in his writing, according to Mo Lotman, in a news release. He’s piled up writing and performance awards, including from the Kerrville and Falcon Ridge festivals and the Maine Songwriters Association, and was nominated at the New England Music Awards.

“Garvey has recently released his eighth album, Another End of the Year, a jewel-box of production five years in the making, featuring beautiful harmonies and tasteful licks from his backing musicians, including the prodigious Cosgrove,” said Lotman. “A number of reviewers have called it his best yet.”

These new songs are sure to be on the playlist when Garvey performs.

Cosgrove will add to the proceedings with some of his own originals—intricate instrumentals that draw on his visceral connection to landscape.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10, cash only at the door.

The Underground Lounge is located in the basement of the Belfast Maskers Theatre at 17 Court Street, offering a homey coffeehouse vibe with a combination of row and cabaret seating (plus some couches) and a kitchen serving drinks and homemade treats. Cozy up with a hot beverage on select Thursday evenings and enjoy indie, folk, and pop performers from around the area.
