Community Messiah sing in Thomaston

Event has passed

THOMASTON—The Episcopal Church of St. John Baptist will host a community Messiah sing at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19. This performance was originally scheduled for Dec. 12, but was cancelled due to inclement weather.

The event is coordinated by Down East Singers, and Anthony Antolini, the group's artistic director, will conduct. Sean Fleming will play the organ and the church's new mini grand piano, and Mozart Mentors Orchestra will provide additional accompaniment.

All area singers interested in performing the Christmas section and the Hallelujah Chorus of G.F. Handel's 1741 Messiah are invited to participate. Scores will be available for singers who do not have their own. Singers will be seated in the pews by voice part.

Soloists will be Nina Tilander, soprano; Amanda Mahaffey, contralto; David Myers Jr., tenor; and Dominique Rosoff, bass.

Non-singers are welcome to listen.

In past years, a rehearsal has taken place the evening before the sing. That will not happen this year. The orchestra and soloists will rehearse briefly at 5 p.m. Tuesday. Those wishing to observe quietly are welcome to do so.

There is no admission charge, but donations will be appreciated.

The church is at 200 Main Street, at the intersection of Green Street. Although some parking is available on Main and Green streets, the parking lot behind the Business Block is the better option.
