Community forum planned March 9 regarding proposed mining activity

UNION — A community forum has been scheduled for residents concerned about proposed mining activity in Warren, Union, and Hope. The Thursday, March 9 forum, at 6 p.m., will be held at the Union Masonic Lodge, 149 Sennebec Road.

Warren resident Pen Williamson will moderate the event, which will also be attended by Bill Pluecker (Maine State Representative); Aga Dixon (Lawyer on Pembroke mining issues); Jan Morrill (Earthworks Tailings Expert); and Nickie Sekera (Co-Founder, Community Water Justice)

“Canadian Company Exiro Minerals has approached Warren and Union with an interest in exploration and mining in residential areas,” said forum organizers, in a news release. “The area proposed for exploration covers 30 square miles stretching from Alford Lake to North Pond.”
