Event has passed

BELFAST — Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 6:30 p.m., Civil War authors Diane Monroe Smith and Ned Smith will share the results of their research into the lives of the Civil War Veterans from Belfast, Maine and put these young men’s stories into the context of the broader picture of the war.

The free presentation will take place in the Abbott Room of the Belfast Free Library, 106 High Street.

Dianne Monroe Smith is the author of Washington Roebling’s Civil War (2019), Fanny and Joshua, Chamberlain at Petersburg, and Command Conflicts in Grant’s Overland Campaign. Ned Smith’s books are unit histories on the 22nd Maine and the 2nd Maine Cavalry.

In 2020 when the pandemic cancelled all book tours and travel, Ned and Dianne started visiting cemeteries in Central and Coastal Maine, finding veteran’s resting places and then researching their histories. This is what they will discuss at the program on the 29th.
