BELFAST — The City of Belfast is organizing a public informational meeting where interested members of the public can come and ask questions regarding the recently-announced proposal by Nordic Aquafarms to site a land-based salmon farming operation in Belfast. This meeting will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21, at the University of Maine Hutchinson Center. The meeting space will be able to accommodate approximately 200 people. For those unable to attend, the entire meeting will be recorded by BEL TV for viewing on television and online.

The meeting will be a question and answer session intended to provide additional clarity and information to the public. This is an opportunity to learn what this project is, and what it is not. A panel comprised of Nordic Aquafarms Chief Executive Officer Erik Heim, Ransom Consulting Senior Project Manager and Senior Geologist Elizabeth Ransom, City of Belfast Economic Development Director Thomas Kittredge, City of Belfast Director of Code & Planning Wayne Marshall, and other representatives from the City of Belfast and the Belfast Water District, will be present and available at this meeting to answer questions from the public. As this meeting will not be a public hearing, no testimony will be taken and no votes will be cast.

The City of Belfast is also maintaining a webpage of documents and links related to Nordic Aquafarms for public access, at www.cityofbelfast.org/nordicaquafarms.
