LINCOLNVILLE — Chris Polson will give a free presentation on “Twenty Years Painting the Katahdin Landscape” on Wednesday, August 7, at 7 p.m., at the Lincolnville Community Library.
Polson will tell about his experiences painting in four major areas around Katahdin and Baxter State Park: Grand Lake Matagamon, Katahdin Lake, the backcountry sites, and the highlands of the mountain itself.
In addition to showing photos of some of the most spectacular painting locations he has found over the past twenty years, he will share images of works completed onsite and later in his studio, including some as large as eight by eleven feet. Most of Polson’s hiking and painting expeditions require him to carry special gear, which he will also describe.
Polson was one of several artists who donated paintings to support the purchase in 2006 of land around Katahdin Lake that is now part of Baxter State Park. Two of his paintings are featured in David Little’s book Art of Katahdin published in 2013.
Polson is co-owner, along with Joe Calderwood, of Twin Brooks Stretchers, a Lincolnville company that manufactures custom canvas artist’s stretchers for clients across the United States and in other countries.
The library is at 208 Main Street in Lincolnville Center. For more information, call 706-3896 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
