THOMASTON – One woman was transported to Pen Bay Medical Center, Thursday, Aug. 16, for observation following a car accident in Thomaston.

Ruth Ghezios, of Massachusetts had pulled to the side of Route 1 along a section of road known as ‘The Flats’ just before 2:35 p.m. in order to talk to a relative, according to Police Chief Tim Hoppe.

Upon restarting the car, she made a U-turn into the path of a car driven by David Paffhausen, of Rockland.

Ghezios’ car rolled over, landing on the passenger door, and leaving her unable to exit the vehicle until help arrived.

Ghezios and Paffhausen were the only people involved in the accident, along with a small dog. There were no apparent injuries, according to Hoppe.

THOMASTON – Thomaston Police, Fire and Ambulance were on scene of a two car accident for about ten minutes before a firefighter was able to pull a small dog from a sideways car.

That dog was not injured in the crash that left one vehicle with front bumper damage and another vehicle sideways in the middle of Route 1, adjacent to Dragon Cement.

Route 1 (New County Road) was shut down between Dexter Street and Old County Road for about an hour around 2 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 16, while responders from Thomaston and Rockland assessed the drivers and cleared away the debris.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Creek Hill.

The road reopened at 3:15 p.m.

Police were still investigating at that time.
