The Camden Snow Bowl triple chairlift will be open and running to deliver locals and visitors, from near and far, up to the summit of Ragged Mountain to view the fall foliage and Penobscot Bay and the islands. Start the day off at the Pancake Breakfast and grab a boxed lunch to take on the lift for a picnic on the mountain.
Located on the coast in the heart of Midcoast Maine, the Snow Bowl’s triple chairlift will be operating from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Sundays, Oct. 6, 13, 20 and 27.
The pancake breakfast is from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the lodge, where you can also pick up a to-go or eat-in lunch, courtesy of the Big T Snack Shack.
Once you are at the top of Ragged Mountain, hop off the chair and wander along two short paths to clearings at the summit, one with views of Penobscot Bay and the islands down east, the other with views of the surrounding mountains to the north and west. The Snow Bowl is the only ski area where you can ride a chairlift and marvel at ocean views.
When you are ready, you can either grab a chair and ride back down the mountain or take a stroll down on foot among your choice of trails.
Chairlift rides are $10 for adults, $5 for children 6-12. Hiking maps will be provided at the ticket table.
If you take your mountain bike for added fun, trail maps are available for $2, courtesy of the Midcoast Chapter of New England Mountain Bike Association.
If you have a kayak or canoe, load it on the car and plan to put in at Hosmer Pond, a stone’s throw from the Snow Bowl.
And if you are an angler, take a fishing pole and cast a line, too.
For those looking for some fuel before and during their rides and hikes, the Ragged Mountain Ski and Snowboard Club will be hosting the pancake breakfasts, also on Sundays in October.
Breakfast is by suggested donation, and Ski Club members will be on hand to talk about their organization, the great things they do to support the community and the Camden Snow Bowl’s programs and activities, and how to become a member.
Snow Bowl Season Passes (at EARLY BIRD RATES) can also be purchased in the lodge during chairlift ride Sundays.
Take a camera and marvel at the splendor of fall in Maine, from the top of the mountain and the ride up.
