Camden-Rockport Middle School groundbreaking ceremony Thursday morning
A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled to take place on Thursday, September 13, beginning at 9:45 a.m. with a rain date of Friday, September 21, 2018 for the new 83,400-square-foot Camden Rockport Middle School (CRMS) to be built on the existing CRMS site. School administration, faculty, students, community and the design and construction team will be present.
About the Project:
This project has been in the works since 2013 when a study was first completed. After a failed bond vote in 2015, the school went back to the drawing board in February of 2016 - they organized Community Feedback Sessions, formed a Building Visions Committee, and held public forums. The new middle school project received school board approval for new construction vs. renovations, and then finally the bond vote passed in June of 2017.
The new school is designed to function as a cohesive and modern facility. The public spaces, such as the library, cafeteria, gym, and mini-theater will be near the front of the building. The academic wing will be toward the back of the building and playing fields. Students and teachers will be in proximity to one another to form a strong sense of community. The space will also be designed for flexibility, with workspace integrated into hallways and public areas. Interior materials and space will be designed to facilitate creativity, collaboration, and innovation. Oak Point Associates is the design architect for the project.
