ROCKPORT — During the week of May 10, Camden Rockport Elementary School will begin accepting applications for its new nature-based Pre-K Program. A Parent/Guardian Informational Meeting will be held on May 27, from 6 - 7 p.m., via Zoom https://networkmaine.zoom.us/j/83948807951.
The Camden Rockport Pre-K program will provide a nature-based learning opportunity for 4-year-old children that reside in Camden or Rockport. This program will provide an authentic connection to the natural world with the majority of a child’s day spent outside in the natural environment, according to the school, in a news release.
“ It is our vision to inspire our students to love nature, foster an environmental ethic and provide developmentally appropriate literacy and numeracy experiences,” said CRES. “Students will learn cognitive and social-emotional skills through exploration, inquiry, and play. Students will become confident and curious learners where nature provides the catalyst for learning.”
All interested parents/guardians who have an eligible child can request and submit a pre-application for consideration for the Pre-K program. The applications will be reviewed and available seats will be selected through a lottery method based on specific criteria for selection that will provide a heterogeneously grouped class.
Applications will be accepted from May 10 to June 7, 2021. The lottery will occur on June 8, 2021. All parents/guardians who submit the pre-application will be notified if their child was selected or not.
For the 2021-2022 school year, children must be 4 years old by October 15, 2021 and residents of Camden or Rockport in order to be considered for the Pre-K program. Students eligible for Kindergarten (turning 5 on or before October 15) will not be eligible, as they are able to attend Kindergarten.
For more information or to access the pre-application visit the Camden Rockport Elementary School Pre-K website or call the school at 236-7809.
