Camden Public Library to screen ‘Legalize Equality’ film
CAMDEN — On Tuesday, November 13, at 7 p.m. at the Camden Public Library, Equal Rights Maine and Midcoast Women present "Legalize Equality" (2018), a 30-minute film based on the documentary "Equal Means Equal".
The film discusses why the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) is imperative to protecting women in America.
Although the Equal Rights Amendment passed in the U.S. Congress in 1972, the required 38 states did not ratify it by the 1982 deadline. Today, there is renewed interest in making the ERA a reality. Two states, Nevada and Illinois, ratified the amendment in the last two years. Only one more state needs to ratify it.
Following the film screening, there will be a discussion of the Equal Rights Amendment, its history and its present revival in the age of #MeToo.
