CAMDEN — Camden Opera House Blue Café Presents Miners Creek, Friday, March 15, at 7:30 p.m.

Miners Creek puts a modern spin on Bluegrass music, fusing traditional Bluegrass with pop, rock, jazz, folk, Latin, Appalachian, gospel and blues, according to the Cafe, in a news release.  Their rich three and four part harmonies, infectious music, driving rhythm and humor will make you smile, tap your feet and feel a happy glow long after the concert in over.

It all started with a tickle in the back of Whitney’s brain. “I think I want to learn to play the banjo,” he told his wife, Resa.

After almost 10 years of medical school, internship, and residency, he finally had time on his hands and his fingers were getting itchy.

“Why don’t you go in the garage and finally build that strip wood canoe you’ve been talking about for years,” Resa said.

“No,” Whit replied.  “I need a banjo.”

And so Resa, being a loving and supportive wife, bought him a banjo for Christmas in 2010.

As soon as Whitney sat down in the living room to figure out how to play it, Resa realized the error in her decision. But by then it was too late.

Three years later, Miners Creek was born.

Today, the band performs extensively in and around New England with a few sojourns further afield. They have performed at the Bronze-Wound Showcase at the International Bluegrass Association Conference in Raleigh, NC; the Thomas Point Beach Bluegrass Special band competition; Joe Val and Jenny Brook showcases; and performed on the main stage at Bluegrass on the Bogs and the North Branch Bluegrass Festival.

In August 2016, the band won 2nd place in Billy’s Belly Bluegrass Competition.

“If we’re not having fun, then it’s not worth doing it. . ,” said Miners Creek, in the release.
