Camden Hills varsity ice hockey slips past Brewer in OT

BREWER — The Camden Hills junior varsity and varsity ice hockey teams hit the road Saturday, Jan. 12 to the Penobscot Ice Arena in Brewer to challenge the Brewer Witches. 

Varsity: Camden Hills 3, Brewer 2 (OT)

In a nail-biting varsity contest, the Windjammers were able to slip past the hosts in overtime when Nolan Delehey found the back of the net to give Camden Hills a 3-2 victory. 

Brewer scored once in each the first and second periods, while Camden Hills found the back of the net in the first, third and overtime periods. 

Scoring for Camden Hills were Michael Blackwell (Charlie Griebel assist), Griebel (unassisted) and Delehey (unassisted). 

Scoring for Brewer were Kevin Moreau (Zach Steiger assist) and Liam Spaudling (unassisted). 

In the goalie net, William Gardner collected 24 saves for the Windjammers, while Tyler St. Lawrence tallied 31 saves for the hosts. 

With the victory, Camden Hills improved its record to 7-2.

In the Class B North standings, the Windjammers sit atop the nine-team division with 30.1852 points. 

The Windjammers will hit the road again for its next contest Friday, Jan. 18 to Orono’s Alfond Arena to challenge Old Town/Orono at 7 p.m.

“The highlights of the game were certainly Delehey’s game winning goal and the gritty play and leadership that Bryce Tyler invested into the game,” said Camden Hills head coach John Magri. “Captain Michael Blackwell was also a big force on the ice and real playmaker in this game tallying a goal, an assist, and originating the game winning play.”

Junior Varsity: Camden Hills 2, Brewer 0 

Anna Griebel (Charlie Griebel assist) and Noah Quesnel (unassisted) scored for the junior varsity Windjammers. 

The junior varsity Windjammers will take the ice again on Friday, Jan. 18 at 8:30 p.m. when the squad challenges Old Town/Orono at Orono’s Alfond Arena.
