Camden Hills ice hockey wins regular season finale

ROCKPORT — The Camden Hills varsity ice hockey team extended its winning streak to three games as the Windjammers closed out the regular season with a 9-3 victory on senior night Wednesday, Feb. 20 at the Midcoast Recreation Center in Rockport against Houlton/Hodgdon/Southern Aroostook/Katahdin. 

Camden Hills netted two goals in the opening period, five in the second and two in third, while Houlton netted a goal in the second and two in the third. 

Netting goals for the hosts were Michael Blackwell, Quinn Brown, Charlie Griebel (twice), Bryce Tyler (three), Dylan Hastings and Andrew Orne. 

Collecting assists for Camden Hills were Levi Guay (two), Tyler (two), Jason Greenleaf (two), Hastings, Orne and Christopher Burns. 

Scoring for Houlton were Nate DeLucca and Jason Collett (two). 

Tallying assists for the visitors were Collett, Logan Swallow, Noah Reynolds, Gavin Vining and Alex Wilde. 

William Gardner registered 26 saves in the goalie net for Camden Hills, while Elijah Matheson tallied 27 for Houlton. 

“Offensively it was very positive to see the team work well together in creating offensive opportunities as all four [defensemen] Quinn Brown, Levi Guay, Jason Greenleaf, and Andrew Orne had points on the night,” Camden Hills head coach John Magri said. “It was also great to see the line of Griebel, Tyler, and Hastings tally 9 points between the three of them solidifying this new line combination.  Michael Blackwell again played our system perfectly with an elite work ethic resulting in his goal that closed the second period.”

During the senior night festivities, Tyler was awarded the team’s Hobey Baker Award. 

Camden Hills will host Hampden Academy in the regular quarterfinals of the Class B North playoffs Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 3:20 p.m. at the Midcoast Recreation Center.
