ROCKPORT — After opening the regular season with a pair of road victories in The County, the Camden Hills (3-0) varsity ice hockey team hosted Cony/Hall-Dale/Monmouth (0-1) at the Midcoast Recreation Center in Rockport on Wednesday, Dec. 11.

The host Windjammers were guided by its strong offensive play throughout the game as they extended its winning streak to three with a 7-1 victory.

Seven minutes into the contest, Camden Hills defenseman Andrew Orne landed a heavy check in the shooting lane to diffuse a partial break away, according to Camden Hills head coach John Magri. The move earned Orne a major penalty for head contact, resulting in the Windjammers having to play down one or two players on the ice at times.

The first tally came with one minute remaining in the opening period when Noah Quesnel scored for the Windjammers courtesy an assist from Eli Libby.

In the second period, Camden Hills added four goals from Charlie Griebel (Quinn Brown assist), Orne (Christopher Burns assist), Griebel (Wells assist) and Ben Wells (Jason Greenleaf assist).

“At the conclusion of the second it was clear we had put the score out of reach and Cony was fatigued from their efforts in the first two periods,” said Magri.

The hosts used 12 forwards and six defensemen in the third period to provide a handful of young players the opportunity to gain experience at the varsity level.

Camden Hills tallied two more goals in the third courtesy Scott Jorgensen (Burns assist) and Quesnel (Levi Guay assist).

With two minutes left in the game, the visitors scored its lone goal as Caleb McFarland scored on a powerplay.

“The positives from this game were the focus and work ethic that our players invested in this game and the points were spread out over 11 players, 3 lines and half the defense,” said Magri, who noted the Camden Hills win was the result of a team effort.

In the goalkeeper net, Jackson Bernier recorded 13 saves for the host Windjammers.

Magri praised Quesnel for being able to switch from defense to forward for this contest and Bernier.

The next game for Camden Hills will be Saturday, Dec. 14 at home against Messalonskee (1-1). The game will be played at the Midcoast Recreation Center in Rockport at 6 p.m.
