ORONO — The Camden Hills junior varsity and varsity ice hockey teams hit the road Friday, Jan. 18 to challenge the combined Old Town and Orono squad at the Alfond Arena in Orono.

Both local squads returned to Rockport with losses, though perhaps the toughest pill to swallow for the varsity Windjammers is that the loss bumped them into second place in the Class B North standings.

Varsity: Old Town/Orono 3, Camden Hills 1

In the Friday showdown, Dominique St. Louis scored twice for the hosts and Sam Henderson scored once as the hosts recorded a goal in each period.

Recording assists for Old Town/Orono were Trent Lick, Tyler McCannell, Sam Henderson and Conner McCannell.

Meanwhile, the lone Windjammer goal came unassisted by Charlie Griebel in the opening period.

Jackson Bernier guarded the net for Camden Hills and recorded 23 saves, while Kohle Parker tallied 27 saves in the home team’s net.

“We weren’t pressuring the puck or puck carriers, allowing Old Town to have puck possession in our own end and execute clean break outs in their end,” said Camden Hills head coach John Magri. “We weren’t forcing turnovers, winning puck battles, and putting Old Town/Orono on their heals with our speed.  We just weren’t playing our game.”

With the loss, Camden Hills now sits at 7-3 on the season and in second place with 34.3827 points. The top team in the divisional standings is now Old Town/Orono, who holds a 1.3889 point advantage over the Windjammers.

The varsity Windjammers will return to the ice on Wednesday, Jan. 22 for a home contest against Hampden Academy at the Midcoast Recreation Center in Rockport at 7 p.m.

Junior Varsity: Old Town/Orono 5, Camden Hills 2

Finding the back of the net for the Windjammers were Eliza Roy and Elias Libby.

No information on the Old Town/Orono scorers was available.

The junior varsity Windjammers will return to the ice on Saturday, Jan. 26 in a home game against Brewer at the Midcoast Recreation Center in Rockport at 7:30 p.m.
