AUBURN — The Camden Hills varsity boys soccer team traveled Thursday, Sept. 23 to Auburn for a thrilling contest against Edward Little and returned to the Midcoast victorious with a 2-0 win.

“What most folks thought would be a matchup of top KVAC ‘A’ teams lived up to it's billing,” said Camden Hills head coach Ryan Hurley.

Seventeen minutes in the opening half, Lucas Moody scored for the visiting Windjammers when Charlie Pons placed al corner kick right on Moody’s head, leading Moody to knock the ball into the net with his head. The line drive head shot came at such a strong pace and ferocity that “almost no one had time to react,” noted Hurley.

The second tally for the guests came when Quinn Riordan found Evan Constantine in the 18-yard box who handed the ball off to Ben Schenk for the score.

Henry Pharris made a few key saves for the Windjammers blocking four of six shots, while Eli St. Laurent contributed recorded eight saves on 16 shots for the hosts. The 'Jammers held the edge in corner kicks 6-4.

"I'm unbelievably proud of the effort the boys put in today on just one day of rest,” said Hurley. “We are a young team but we are hungry and we are playing hard together. It was great to get a clean sheet today and to play a 5-1 team at their field and come away with a bunch of heal points. There is a lot of soccer left to be played in this season but we are excited about where we are at thus far.”

The Windjammers will travel Saturday, Sept. 25 to Brunswick for its next contest.
