ROCKPORT — The Camden Hills varsity boys soccer team opened its season Friday, Sept. 6 on its home field in Rockport with a thrilling contest against rival Bangor, with the game’s outcome being decided by a single goal.

The host Windjammers were fortunate to have the upperhand on the scoreboard, thus collecting a 4-3 victory over the visiting Rams.

Levi Guay and Quinn Brown each found the back of the net twice for the Windjammers, while Hugh Costigan, Ben Owre and Jackson Fitch recorded assists for the hosts.

Matt Kremin stopped two of Bangor’s five shots as the Camden Hills goalkeeper.

The seven-point scoring affair began when Bangor’s Damian Sheffer put the guests on the scoreboard first at the 30 minute mark in the opening half.

Guay responded for the hosts two minutes later off a Costigan assist.

Bangor’s Andrew Munroe netted his team’s second goal with 15 minutes remaining in the opening frame.

Camden Hills tied the contest with five minutes remaining until the halftime break when Owre eluded the Bangor goalkeeper to send a cross into the box that Fitch, after making a 60-yard run, laid back to Brown who found the back of the net in the upper corner.

The rivals battled hard to begin the second half of the nail-biter until Owre provided an assist for Brown to net his second goal of the night to put the hosts up 3-2.

Three minutes later, Guay tallied his second goal to push the Camden Hills advantage to a two-point lead.

Bangor netted its third, and ultimately final goal, with seven minutes remaining on the clock.

Camden Hills finished with 12 shots on net, while Bangor managed six shots on net.

"I was really proud of the team today,” said Camden Hills head coach Ryan Hurley. “We showed a lot of character coming back twice and never letting up until the final whistle. We scored beautiful goals and took some positive steps forward. We'll savor the win against one of the best programs in Class A and will start preparing for a clash with Brewer next Tuesday."
