ROCKPORT — The winning streak continued Saturday, April 24 for the Camden Hills varsity boys lacrosse team, who easily sailed past visiting Erskine Academy to extend its record to 2-0. 

In the high scoring affair, the Windjammers tallied a 22-3 victory and now looks ahead to its first road trip of the season Tuesday, April 27. The Windjammers will be traveling to Augusta to challenge Cony at 4 p.m.

Quarterly, the Windjammers edged Erskine 8-0, 6-1, 5-1 and 3-1. 

Five goals were tallied by both Levi Guay (five assists, four ground balls) and Jackson Fitch (assist, four ground balls) for the hosts Saturday. Other contributors to the Camden Hills offense were Willy Doehla (three goals, two assists), Jakob Johnson (three goals, assist), Nolan Delehey (goal, two assists, eight ground balls), Noah Quesnel (two goals, assist), Hunter Smith (two goals), Emmet Marshall (goal) and Quinn Riordan (assist). Delehey won 20 of 28 faceoffs for the Windjammers. 

On defense, Rory Carlson recorded eight ground balls and Elias Libby tallied four. 

Working the goalie net, Camden Powell collected the win thanks to three saves and only allowing two goals in three quarters of action. Cole Freeman guarded the net for one quarter and allowed a goal while also saving a goal. 

Erskine Academy, which dropped to 0-2 on the season, was led by Michael Nicholas (goal, assist), Casey Kirkpatrick (goal), Austin Nicholas (goal) and Brady Kirkpatrick (assist). 

The two Erskine Academy goalies combined to record 15 saves. 

Camden Hills recorded 37 shots on goal while Erskine tallied seven. 

Following the contest, Camden Hills head coach Harrison Rogers noted the Windjammers’ three starting attackmen of Guay, Doehla and Johnson had a big day for the hosts. 

“They took that extra split second and moved their feet for higher quality shots and scoring chances,” Rogers commented. “They also knew when the slide was coming to find the open man or when the slide did not come after they beat their defenseman, they turned the corner and finished.” 

Thirteen of the 22 Camden Hills goals were assisted and Rogers noted the Windjammers played unselfish lacrosse for the second game in a row.

“We attacked one side of the field, were able to draw slides after the players beat their defenseman, and move the ball quickly around their rotating defense to the other side to find the easy one v. one opportunities on the doorstep with the goalie,” said Rogers. 

All the defense and midfielders had a shutdown game Saturday limiting Erskine to three goals. All 10 defensemen saw action in the game that limited Erskine to zero goals in the 1st quarter and one goal for each of the remaining 3 quarters.

Carlson, Libby, Smith, Quesnel, Simon Polk, Quinn Riordan, and Marshall had another huge day for Camden Hills at midfield, Rogers noted.

“These players won us possession of the ball that led to us having the ball in our offensive end most of the game,” he said. 

Fitch continued to lead the offense from the offensive midfield with five goals and an assist.

“Jackson is the type of player that can score from anywhere on the field and can make a team pay when they don’t slide early to him,” said Rogers.
