open house at the property on June 8

Camden ballot to include proposed transfer of Rollins Road property to land trust

Event has passed

CAMDEN — Camden residents will vote on transferring a 4.5-acre town-owned property to Coastal Mountains Land Trust, which would improve access to an existing network of trails off Rollins Road that are part of the Ragged Mountain Preserve.

“The town property along a lovely stretch of the Goose River connects to the larger Ragged Mountain Preserve, and a very popular network of trails used for mountain biking, trail running, hiking and xc skiing,” said CMLT, in a news release. “The trails are flatter and less technical than many of the other trails in the area, so they are ideal for new riders and kids.”

Currently, there is very limited parking and no easy way to access the trails.

If the transfer is approved, the Land Trust would maintain the property in its natural condition, and build a small parking area, improving access for more users – whether it is for biking for kids and beginning riders, a gentle hike, trail run, or fishing in the river.

Staff from the Town of Camden and Coastal Mountains Land Trust will host an open house at the property on Thursday, June 8, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Residents can stop by to see the property, or call the Land Trust office with any questions at 236-7091.

The Select Board voted unanimously to support the proposal. To approve the transfer, voters should vote YES on Article 5 on the Camden ballot.

Voting is at the Camden Fire Department on June 13, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
