    CAMDEN —  The Camden Public Library has announced its Calendar of Events for October 2021.

    Thursday, October 14, 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Tech Help Thursdays: Google Account Basics. 
    Tech Help Thursdays are a series of programs that will help participants learn how to comfortably navigate technology applications. In October, the library will offer a two-part class via Zoom called “Google Account Basics,” which will introduce Google’s email service, Gmail, and their file storage service, Google Drive.     Tuesday, October 19, 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM. Camden Conference Community Event: Brexit at 5 — How is it Going? Five years ago, the people of the United Kingdom voted by a slim majority to leave the European Union, the first time any country had ever done so. This decision, which shocked the world, ushered in a period of intense economic, social, and political upheaval that still reverberates today.     Our Children's librarian has decided NOT to have outdoor story time events on Fridays in October and November. 

     

    Canceled Event (from late September):
    CANCELED: Thursday, September 30, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Huge Book Sale Under the Tent. The used book event will run Thursday, September 30, through Sunday, October 3, and will be set up under a huge tent adjacent to the Blue Door Book Shed on Atlantic Ave. The book shed and event tent can be reached via the parking lot on the left just past the Camden Amphitheatre. Thousands of books, DVDs, CDs, and audio books will be on sale for great prices to benefit the library.

    OCTOBER 2021

    Month-Long Exhibits:
    October 1 through 29, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The Seven S’s of Olmsted DesignThe library will offer an exhibit celebrating Harbor Park and the Village Green as part of Camden's "Olmsted 200" celebration. Frederick Law Olmsted and his sons had an enormous impact on the philosophy and appearance of public spaces in the country in general and Camden in particular. View photos from the past and present and learn about Olmsted design theory.

Explorations Read Aloud: The Stories of John CheeverLocal thespian Joseph Coté will read aloud from The Stories of John Cheever, a seminal collection from one of the true masters of the short story. New readings become available to watch every Friday at 11:00 am in the “videos” section of the library’s YouTube Channel and Facebook Page.

    Saturday, October 2, 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Book Signing Event with Charles H. Lagerbom for Maine to Cape Horn: The World’s Most Dangerous VoyageMaritime historian Charles H. Lagerbom will be in the Camden Public Library’s Children’s Garden selling and signing copies of his newly released book Maine to Cape Horn: The World’s Most Dangerous Voyage. This event is held in conjunction with Lagerbom’s October 5 online presentation about the book. Visit librarcamden.org for details.

    Friday, October 15, 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM. Sound Bathing with Gongs Event. Enjoy the relaxing and transformative sound of gongs and chimes in the gorgeous Camden Amphitheatre. Musical instrument creator and Sound Therapist Jim Doble will create waves of sound to help participants sonically cleanse, rejuvenate, rest, and recuperate.     Sunday, October 17, 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Down East Singers: Comfort & Joy Concert. The Down East Singers will be holding a free public concert of American music in the Camden Amphitheatre. The program will be performed as a tribute to the people who have suffered or lost their lives due to Covid-19. Choral selections will include music from the Shakers and Quakers to Gospel and Spirituals. Guest artist, fiddler Owen Kennedy, will be playing fiddle tunes. A limited amount of chairs will be provided. The audience is encouraged to bring their own chair or blanket.
