    CAMDEN — Envision the future, craft creatively, and ponder the intrigues of nature through a variety of events scheduled in January at the Camden Public Library.

    Thursday, January 2, 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM. Tech Talk Thursday. Daniel Hart, of Hart Computers, offers a series of free 60-90 minute tech talks on the first Thursday of the month. This month's presentation is: Backing Up Your Devices. Free. No registration required.

    Friday, January 3, 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Grown Up Story Hour. We never outgrow listening to a good story read aloud. Volunteers read stories for 30-60 minutes.

    FridayJanuary 3, 4:00 PM to 5:45 PM. Chess Club. Learn new strategies and test them out. For players of all ages and skill levels.

    Saturday, January 4, 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Artists' Reception for Joan Marshall Losee. Losee's show Beyond the Coast: A Portrait of Maine Farms and Landscapes showcases paintings that reflect the artist's intrigue over the past two years with the farms and landscapes of inland Maine.

    Monday, January 6, 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Puzzle Club. Puzzle-lovers of all ages are welcome to this weekly gathering to socialize and work on puzzle projects together.

    Tuesday, January 7, 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Envisioning Your Future. Learn to imagine and plan for what you will be doing in ten years. New Ventures Maine creates an empowering environment for Maine people to define and achieve their career, financial, and small business goals.     Tuesday, January 7, 6:30 PM. Author Talk with Robert Klose: Life on Mars. In his second novel, Klose takes a satirical look at Evolution vs. Intelligent Design.

    Wednesday, January 8, 10:00 AM. Brain Injury Support Group. This group welcomes stroke survivors, their families, and friends, as well as anyone facing neurological challenges.

    Thursday, January 9, 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. Coastal Mountains Land Trust Talk: What Hides Under the Ice? Join Maine Master Naturalist and photographer Edwin Barkdoll for an evening of exploring life under the ice culminating in the annual amphibian emergence and migration.

    Tuesday, January 14, 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. Papercutting. Librarian Loraine will teach the basic skills used in the ancient art of papercutting. Using sharp blades and paper, participants can make some truly beautiful designs. Templates will be available for use, or participants can create their own. Registration required 236-3440. $10 supplies fee per program.

    Thursday, January 16, 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. Mid-Coast Audubon Series: Coastal Acidification. Sarah Gladu will discuss coastal acidification, the necessity of a long-term water quality data set, and some observations that have been made through a citizen science intitiative with respect to estuarine water quality from Harraseeket to Rockport Harbor.

The Ammassalik Expedition 2019: Adventures on the East Coast of Greenland and the Arctic Ocean. Dan Bookham discusses his summer adventure in a 24 ft boat on the Arctic Ocean scanning shoreline for Inuit and Norse ruins. He'll talk about what the expedition found, saw, and experienced along the way.

When a rooster, shot from a circus cannon, appears to fly onto a chicken farm, the chickens see him as their only hope to escape their evil owners who want to turn them into chicken pies! Animated.     Saturday, January 25, 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Simply Books! Book Club. Fun and informal. Bring whatever book you are currently reading, and share it with the group. Meets fourth Satudays through May.

    Monday, January 27, 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM. Stewardship Education Alliance (SEA) Presentation. SEA’s mission is to increase community awareness of the ways we can be better stewards of our watershed, harbor, and ocean. The organization awards grants to teachers for projects and courses that further this mission. At this presentation, students and teachers from SEA funded programs will discuss and present their work. Representatives will also be on hand to discuss the grant program and opportunities for 2020.

    Tuesday, January 28, 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Camden Garden Club Winter Horticulture Series. This free series of public talks runs on Tuesdays from January 28 through February 25. The first program, Maine and New England Heirlooms, will be presented by Heron Breen, Fedco Seeds Coordinator of Research & Development.

    Tuesday, January 28, 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. Doodle Stitching and Embroidery Librarian Amy will review the art of doodle stitching and embroidery and teach basic stitching techniques. Participants should bring a piece of clothing, a cloth purse, or any item made of thin fabric to embellish with embroidery. Needles, thread and embroidery hoops will be provided. Registration required 236-3440. $10 supplies fee per program.

Movie: Colonial Cooking for the Modern Kitchen. Programs Coordinator Julia will review popular Colonial New England recipes and teach participants how to adapt and recreate the recipes in a modern kitchen.
