BELFAST — A Bucksport man accused of gross sexual assault has received a deferred disposition by Judge Patricia Worth, in Waldo County Unified Court Oct 15.

Alex Burbank, 19, was arrested by Searsport Police for the crime on May 17 and was indicted by a Waldo County Grand Jury the following week. The crime is alleged to have occurred on April 20.

The sexual assault allegedly took place in Searsport when Burbank was still 18 and involved a minor under the age of 14, according to court documents.

As part of his plea, Burbank’s charge of gross sexual assault was dismissed and a new charge of unlawful sexual contact was added, which he pleaded guilty to Oct. 15, after waiving his indictment.

The conditions of Burbank’s deferment are that he have no direct or indirect contact with children under age 18, except in content of employment and except as approved by a sex offender counselor, which he will be required to see.

If Burbank is able to complete his deferred disposition successfully, he will be convicted of assault (class D) and will be fined $300. Should Burbank be unsuccessful, he will be sentenced in open court for unlawful sexual contact.

Burbank is scheduled to conclude his deferment and appear in Waldo County Unified Court Oct. 12, 2021.
