ROCKLAND — A captured-live high definition broadcast of Swan Lake, performed by the Bolshoi Ballet and broadcast from Moscow, will be presented on Sunday, March 1, at 1 p.m., at the Strand Theatre.
In the story, Prince Siegfried is summoned by his parents to choose a bride. However, by the lake he encounters a mysterious and magnetic swan-woman, Odette, and is captivated. His vow of eternal love to her will have irreversible consequences.
Tchaikovsky’s historic masterpiece was premiered by the Bolshoi Ballet at the Bolshoi Theatre in 1877, and despite its initial failure with audiences, is now recognized as one of the most popular ballets of all time, according to Strand, in a news release.
“Technically challenging and filled with vibrant emotion, with a stunning and world-famous corps de ballet in perfect unison, the legendary love story between Prince Siegfried and the dual personalities Odette/Odile is a classic ballet experience,” said Strand.
Running time: 2 hours 40 min., including one intermission.
Tickets are $15/Adults, $10/Students 18 and under, and college students with ID.
The Strand Theatre is located at 345 Main Street, in Rockland.
