ROCKPORT — Friday, July 12, at 5:30 p.m., the Barn Swallow Book Shop will be hosting horticulturalist and author Reeser Manley.
Reeser Manley has gardened in South Carolina, Washington state (while earning a doctorate in horticultural science), Massachusetts and, for the last 17 years, in Maine.
From 2007 through 2013, he wrote about the garden in a weekly column for the Bangor Daily News. He taught courses in horticulture at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and the University of Maine, Orono.
In 2013 he retired from teaching chemistry and physics at a small high school on the coast of Maine to devote his time to gardening and garden writing.
Reeser and Marjorie Peronto have authored two books: The New England Gardener's Year (2013) and The Life in Your Garden (2016). Their third book, Gardening for Biodiversity, will be published in early 2021.
Barn Swallow Book Shop is located at 166 Russell Ave, Rockport; adjacent to the old CMCA and across from the old Rockport Public Library.
