Keeping our Friends and Neighbors Healthy Concert Series

Belfast Summer Nights to feature Muskeg, Shirt Tail Kin

Event has passed

BELFAST — Hear Belfast Summer Night's music at Belfast Harbor, July 16, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. The night’s featured bands will play from the Footbridge and project the sound across the harbor to both east and west shores.

Audience is encouraged to bring a boat and float, or listen with your family unit from the shoreline surrounding the harbor.  Prizes will be awarded for boats decorated with artwork on the series theme "Keeping Our Friends and Neighbors Healthy".

“Please join in the fun spirit of this celebration by giving plenty of social distance and masking up,” said Summer Nights, in a news release.

The first show of the 2020 season, July 16, features two groups familiar to Belfast Summer Nights regulars.

Rural Electric members Alan Gibson, Andrew Carpenter, and Mike Bahner, veterans to the Summer Nights stage have been collaborating with singer-songwriter Alyssa Kelly ever since their paths crossed at a Belfast house party in spring of 2019. By 2020 Sean Ociepka bassist from the Leaky Boot Jug Band has joined to complete the new sound.

Currently branding themselves Muskeg, the five Waldo-county-based musicians are now performing a merged collection of original tunes that span decades of rock-n-roll audacity and day-job-preservation. Their Americana sound delivers poetic lyrics, vocal harmonies, and traces of their indie rock and alt-country heroes. Throwing caution to the wind and ego out the window, Muskeg is simply committed to making music together, according to Summer Nights, in a news release.

After a short break, perennial favorite Shirt Tail Kin will round out the first night’s entertainment. The name Shirt Tail Kin refers to somebody who is kin by marriage or is distantly related, such as a fourth cousin, your girlfriend’s uncle, or as in the July 16 show, Friends and Neighbors. Familiar veterans Mike Bennett on drums and Ezra Rugg on bass provide a great foundation, according to the release.

“Pete Davis's understated guitar or pedal steel never fails to sweeten that country rock sound while frontman Curtis Russet’s electric zaniness gets us going every time we see him play,” said Nights. “Super energy, great singer and songwriter.”
