BELFAST — For three years a group of sketch artists with various artistic interests has been meeting at the Belfast Free Library. They were formerly The Belfast Free Sketchers, but as interests expanded, the group’s name became Art Explorations.
On the second Wednesday of each month, enthusiastic learners share various techniques, ideas and materials. Meetings begin in a Round Robin format where those who wish, will show and share their artistic journeys.
“There are no critiques, but there is a lot of interest and support,” said Explorations, in a news release.
Focused activities have included presentations by members of the group and by guest artists, often followed by a hands-on activity.
On Wednesday, Feb. 12, from 1 - 3 p.m., creating Valentines will be the focus. Participants will bring their ideas and materials to use and share, for a “Valentine Making Pot Luck.” Techniques will include paper cutting, collage, pop-ups, painted cards, and crafted envelopes and booklets.
Participants always bring an art kit of their own favorite materials, but for this session, they will bring some materials for the group to use as well.
Art Exploration meetings at the Belfast Free Library are free open to the public.
