Bay Chamber Music School’s Play-a-thon and Odeon Concerts
On Sunday, May 20, from 1 to 5 p.m., Bay Chamber Music School invites members of the community to drop by Union Hall, 24 Central St., in Rockport, for its third annual Play-a-thon. Students of all ages and abilities will be playing non-stop throughout the afternoon and guests can drop in and out while enjoying free music, refreshments in a family fun atmosphere.
Music School students, members of the Music School Faculty and friends from throughout the Midcoast community will be playing repertoire from folk to jazz to classical. Some students have volunteered to reach out to sponsors and those donations and any money contributed at the event will go to support Bay Chamber’s scholarship program. Over 40% of the students at the Music School receive financial aid amounting to over $75,000 in financial aid awards and free classes annually.
In addition to the enjoying a wide variety of musical performances at the Play-a-thon, audiences can enjoy free refreshments, enter to win some great raffle prizes and learn more about Bay Chamber’s many musical offerings.
Then, on Tuesday, May 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Rockport Opera House, Bay Chamber Concerts and Music School will present the Odeon Spring Concert. This performance is also free and open to the public.
The concert features the Odeon Brandenburg and Adult Orchestras joined by the Odeon Brandenburg Ensemble, joined by the Suzuki Twinklers, many of whom are making their debut performance. Odeon is conducted by Deirdre McClure, assisted by Nathan Hillman, Gilda Joffe and April Reed-Cox. Repertoire on the program includes Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto #5, the jazz favorite, Take Five, made famous by the Dave Brubeck Quartet, along with other classical favorites.
