BELFAST — Friends of Sears Island will host “Falling Leaf Fun,” a program for kids, Friday, October 18, from 2:30 - 4 p.m., at Belfast City Park. The program will be led by Jenni Judkins, of the Belfast Bay Watershed Coalition.
Judkins will guide children on a walk to observe and collect leaves, followed by a game called “Steal the Leaf” to learn how to identify common Maine tree species.
Children will have the opportunity to journal and create nature mandalas with colorful autumn leaves. Judkins will share fall-themed stories and Native American lore as well.
This program is for kids ages 6-12 with an accompanying adult. To sign-up, visit https://friendsofsearsisland.org/oct-18-science-squad-registration/. This event is part of Friends of Sears Island’s “Science Squad,” an after-school program engaging children as scientists, explorers, and stewards of their environment.
Jenni Judkins is the Natural Literacy Educator for the Belfast Bay Watershed Coalition. She has extensive experience teaching in classrooms and outdoors, a degree in biology, and a lifelong love of nature and its wonders.
Registered participants should plan to meet at the covered picnic shelter at Belfast City park, near the beach.
