Arts in Action to celebrate Rock City mural during First Friday artwalk

Event has passed

ROCKLAND — Arts in Action invites the community to join in a celebration of the team of OHS students designers, painters and community volunteers who brought the newest collaborative artwork to life for Rockland's downtown under the guidance of mural director, Alexis Iammarino.

Students and volunteers will be recognized for their generous service and creative contributions to this new public art work, Friday, October 1, from 5:30 - 6:15 p.m., during Rockland’s First Friday artwalk.

Located on Orient Street, this summer’s newest mural was initiated by the Rock City Employee Cooperative with a request and invitation to the Arts in Action Community Mural program to create an original public artwork for the exterior of Hello Hello Books and Rock City Café.

Local artists from Oceanside High School enrolled in AiA's Mural Program formed a design crew and spent the winter and spring, mostly via Zoom, this past year in a workshop developing collaborative concepts on the theme of "Coming Together" presented by Ryan Jackson of the Rock City Employee Cooperative. The mural came to life over the course of a few weeks during late summer 2021, and has brought a new layer of colors to the downtown landscape, according to Arts in Action, in a news release.

Arts in Action is a program of RSU13 Adult and Community Education with support from the ANONIMO Foundation.

Refreshments and hot beverages will be served compliments of Rock City Coffee.
