The Lincolnville Historical Society is hosting an artist's open house, Sunday, July 6, from 2 to 4 p.m., featuring local artist Tom Hardy. Light refreshments will be served.

Tom Hardy is a Maine artist who is inspired by nature and natural themes. His current focus is relief sculpture. He uses a unique method of sandblasting; a means of distressing with sand to remove the low-density fiber from wood, to reveal the true character of the wood.

"This 'wooden fingerprint' presents a random beauty, adds tremendous depth and texture," said a news release. "He strives to achieve a 'looking through a window' sort of quality in his relief work as the end result."

The LHS is located at 33 Beach Road in Lincolnville.
