ROCKLAND — On Sunday, October 20, the Sanctuary Gallery at the Rockland Congregational Church will feature the works of Marjorie Strauss, painter, pastel artist and sculptor. There will be an opening reception from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The exhibit will feature Strauss' rich and resonant pastels of flora, which emphasize the plants' sensual shapes and colors.
Strauss has lived and worked in Rockland for more than 35 years. She received her degree from the Massachusetts College of Art, but her love of nature drew her away from Boston to Maine to create.
Her subject matter is the forms of nature, particularly trees and large-leafed plants. She also does freelance graphic design and writes a column on Midcoast artists for The Free Press.
The Rockland Congregational Church is located at 180 Limerock Street. The Gallery is located in the church building on the upper level, which is handicap accessbile.
